The academy was created by Charlene Kruger to help limit the abandonment of dogs due to poor understanding between dogs and their owners.
This understanding comes about through the training of dogs from an early age. Even so, we have proved that even old dogs can learn new tricks!
So many dog training schools concentrate on training the canine and totally underestimate the role of the handler and owner. We concentrate on developing a rapport between dog and handler/owner that results in a harmonious relationship.
Being an experienced dog handler of 25 years and K.U.S.A. judge, Charlene can also accommodate those who want to take their dogs to competition.
Manderston believes in the Synergistic Approach to dog training. This approach is the combination of Ethology and the practical outcomes based obedience training, offered by trained Animal Behaviourists with the practical knowledge of ongoing obedience training.
We are situated in Glen Austin, Midrand, with easy access from the N1 and R21 Highways. The Manderston training grounds are located at the back of a large property, which is well shielded from traffic and the comings and goings of attendees. This makes the school more intimate and safe for our dogs and handlers. Manderston has a small shop which sells treats, toys and dog equipment. We also have a small coffee shop, the 'Manderston Café', where you can get something light to eat and drink while you relax before or after your class.
Please feel free to come and watch us in action on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Enjoy a cup of coffee with us. We love visitors. There are always members of Manderston walking around that can answer all your questions. You are also welcome to join us on our Forum, for which you will have to follow a short registration procedure.
Public Service Announcement: Choose Your Animal Behaviourist Wisely

Manderston Canine Academy would like to make the public aware that certain individuals have taken to exploiting the unsuspecting public, using glamorous advertising and unrealistic promises to woo them.
We urge anyone who is considering consulting an Animal Behaviourist to check the credentials of the consultants they are considering. Please visit the South African Board of Companion Animal Professionals, or any other registered animal behavioural society, to verify that the persons you wish to deal with are registered as Animal Behaviourists. Ask for 3 or 4 references that you can follow up.
Please compare the fees; more expensive is not necessarily better. Find out what is being offered for the fee you are being charged. Your consultation fee should include at least one follow-up visit and it should be a flat rate, not an hourly rate. Don’t just blindly spend your money.
Remember that animal behaviour, like human behaviour, is an individual thing. Anyone who guarantees results should probably market himself as magician.
We Are Open!

We are open throughout December and January.
All the classes for Christmas Day and New Years Day will move to the Saturday the 24th December and the 31st December respectively. There will only be one class at 9am and we will do fun things.
All other weekend and Wednesday classes will continue as usual.
To all who are going away, we wish happy holidays and a safe journey!
